Significantly More People
The US Census bureau has released its estimate of the population for July 1, 2007. Lawrence Township has a projected increase of nine percent over the 2000 census, with the population growing to 31,863. This can probably be attributed to the increased numbers of houses in the township, specifically the active adult communities.

Peace and Quiet in Long Acres
Residents in the Long Acres Neighborhood in Lawrence Township have long been complaining about the traffic noise from I-95, the six-lane highway that stretchs along side of the development. After decades of waiting, it seems like residents will finally get the relief they have wanted for so long. The New Jersey DOT recently held a special public meeting to discuss its plan to erect a 2,800-foot-long sound barrier along the highway that borders the neighborhood. The planned wood barrier would be 13 feet tall and placed 8 feet away from the highway edge.

Tougher Rental Rules
Lawrence Township Officials are expected to introduce an ordinance aimed at preventing overcrowding issues and rental-unit code violations. The proposed regulation would require all rental units to undergo yearly inspections by fire prevention officials. Currently, only multifamily residences are inspected annually, with all other units inspected when there is a change of tenants. Under the new rule, all out-of-town landlords would also need to have a registered agent who could be contacted in case of an emergency.
